"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

About Spirit Fruit

Theron Brown grew up immersed in the rhythms and harmonies of church music in Ohio, where his earliest memories are of exploring instruments and learning gospel songs. His artistry is rooted in tradition, yet shaped by a spirit of collaboration and openness. For Spirit Fruit, Brown found inspiration in the enduring values of love, grace, and renewal—qualities reflected in both his music and his life.

Making the Album

Spirit Fruit was recorded at Studio A, Warren Music Center, University of California, San Diego, from May 15-17, 2023. Guided by producer Kamau Kenyatta, Theron Brown (piano) and a dedicated team brought this project to life, inspired by the enduring qualities described in Galatians. Released August 17, 2024.

Kamau Kenyatta is a Grammy Award-winning record producer, musician, arranger, film composer, and educator. A Detroit native, Kenyatta is renowned for his collaborations with Gregory Porter, including the Grammy-winning albums Liquid Spirit and Take Me to the Alley. He is a Teaching Professor at the University of California, San Diego, and has contributed to jazz, R&B, and film music for over five decades.

The album’s artwork was hand-painted by Mzwandile Buthelezi, whose artwork bridges continents and cultures, and B+ (Brian Cross), whose photography captures moments of reflection and connection. Each contributor, from the piano technician to the engineers, played a role in shaping the album’s character.

Spirit Fruit is a meeting of journeys—musical, personal, and communal. The compositions, some by Brown and others by Kenyatta, invite listeners to contemplate hope, gratitude, and the beauty of everyday renewal. The process was marked by late-night sessions, honest conversation, and a shared belief in music’s power to connect and uplift. The result is an album that welcomes all, offering a space for reflection and joy.
